The Best Method or Ways To Learn New Languages
The Best Method or Ways To Learn New Languages
Hi guys😀✌, I'm back on Friday. Previously I've posted about the benefits of being bilingual right? Now I will post on how to develop our second language based on my experience. Personally I have English not as my second language but it is my third language because the first one of course Indonesian is my mother tongue, the second one is Javanese because I live in East Java and most of the time I speak Javanese for my whole life, it is also one of hundreds traditional languages in Indonesia. Then after that is English. I have loved the English subject since I was in elementary school but started to focus on it when I'm already in high school for about the 11th grade and up until now I am still learning it. I started to take an English course at that time and really started all over again from the beginner level, learning with my tutor twice a week day by day, month by month, until 4 years passed. Now, I'm in the C1 level which is intermediate. So, I will share my method to reach that level and share my experiences too, maybe it can work for you guys as well.
1. Immerse Yourself in the language:
- Starting with this simple intention can help so much, surround yourself with native speakers of the language that you learned such as books, e-books, movies, articles, essays, and many more or as simple as youtube videos. Take advantage of these days technologies to enrich your knowledge.
-You can change your phone language settings to the language that you learned so that you can be familiar with it.
2. Writing, Reading, Speaking, and Thinking Routinely:
-Try to write, read, speak, and also think in the language that you learned. You must force yourself in it because those 4 are extremely effective for anyone i think. Remember to try to do it often, just do it in a simple way first like just everyday conversation, write your day like in a diary, and so on.
3. Take Language Course:
-If possible you can take a language course for yourself because having a tutor can help us know how to do better and proper English. They can correct us, help us to develop our language skill to the better. Not only that but also they can explain how your language progress, is it much better, stuck, or instead not satisfactory.
4. Take a note on what vocabulary that you haven't known:
-For example when you're reading you must find some words or even sentences that you don't know the meaning. It is normal guys because we are still learning right? So, take a note for them whether it's in your phone or you write it in a notebook. Whatever you like, as long as you are comfortable with it. Write them down and google the meaning and write down the meaning too, afterwards you have to read and memorize them again and again. Use them as your new words in every sentence you speak, I mean try to use the words so you don't forget.
5. Have some Language Exchange Partners:
-Find a language exchange partner who is a native speaker of the language you want to learn. You can help each other practice your respective languages.
Many online platforms connect language learners for virtual language exchange sessions, for example tinder, tandem, snapchat, instagram, facebook, tumblr, and many more.
6. Cultural Understanding:
-Learn about the culture associated with the language. Understanding cultural nuances can improve your comprehension and communication skills.
Watch documentaries, cultural shows, or travel vlogs related to the culture.
7. Grammar and Syntax:
-Understand the grammar rules and sentence structure of the language. Grammar is essential for clear communication.
Work through grammar exercises and seek feedback to improve accuracy.
8. Use Language Tools:
-Utilize language tools such as dictionaries, translation apps, and grammar checkers. They can be valuable references during your learning process.
9. Set Realistic Goals:
-Set achievable short-term and long-term language learning goals. Tracking your progress and celebrating milestones can help maintain motivation.
10. Stay Consistent:
-Consistency is key to language learning. Dedicate a set amount of time each day or week to practice and study the language.
Establish a routine that fits your schedule and lifestyle.
11. Practice Active Listening:
-Listen to podcasts, radio shows, or audiobooks in the target language. Try to understand the content and take notes on unfamiliar words or phrases.
Active listening improves your comprehension and pronunciation.
12. Stay Motivated:
-Stay motivated by reminding yourself why you want to learn the language. Set personal incentives for reaching specific milestones. I know that learning something new is tiring and exhausting, so make sure to stay motivated. You can be tired of something u just have to take a break for awhile but doesn't mean to stop to learn.
So, that's several methods of mine to learn a new language. If you guys have any other methods, try to comment down below yaa. Hope you guys can be more motivated by it. Stay positive and keep learning yaa!!!! See you soon!
