Cases of Racism in "The Karate Kid (2010)", Opinions and Explanations

Opinions on Racism in "The Karate Kid (2010)" movie?

Hello guys, sorry I was being inactive for weeks. Didn't upload anything because I have such a busy month. Doing my college assignments, mid semester test project, preparation for my Community Service Program too in college, so yeah that's a little bit explanation for these past few weeks👩👍.

Moving on, for today's upload I will take the "racism" theme. We're gonna dive into a movie called "Karate Kid". You guys must know this famous movie starring the one and only Mr. Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. I will put in my research, ratings, and a little bit of opinions and explanations for this movie.

First of all, for you guys who don't know this movie yet, hear me out right now. "Karate Kid" is an American and Chinese movie directed by Harald Zwart. Produced by Jerry Weintraub, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz. This film is written by Christopher Murphey and Robert Mark Kamen. And starring  Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson as the main character of this film. Was released on June, 10th 2010 which was 13 years ago already, but this movie still has a dearest place in my heart.

The story starts when a 12-year-old Dre Parker leaves Detroit for Beijing after his widowed mother Sherry gets a job transfer at a car factory. There, Dre meets Meiying, a young violinist who reciprocates his attention. However, 15-year-old Cheng, a rebellious Kung Fu prodigy whose family is close to Meiying's, keeps them apart by constantly attacking, teasing and bullying Dre. As revenge, Dre throws a bucket of dirty water over Cheng and his gang after a school field trip to the Forbidden City. Enraged, they chase, corner and brutally beat Dre at an alley. Mr. Han, a maintenance man who repaired for Sherry, intervenes and fends off the boys, revealing himself to be a Kung Fu Master. Then, Dres asks Mr.Han to be his Kung Fu teacher.

The racism in this movie shows when Cheng bullies and attacks Dre, in my point of view the reason is clear because Dre doesn't look like them physically. Dre is an american-african kid who lives in an Asian country that is also totally new for him in terms of environments, society, and moreover the language. As a friend, I think Cheng at least has to support Meiying for being a "helpful friend" to Dre but he is not. He's beating him up and threatening Dre.

Another racism scene shows when Dre comes to Meiying's violin performance or competition, there he just wants to support his friend. Meiying is all over the mood to see him was there to see her but it's a different story to Meiying's parents, they realize Meiying was staring at Dre for almost the whole of her performance. After Meiying's done, the three of them facing Dre in the audience seats, Dre who initially wanted to greet them at first became silent because the parents were mad and nagged at him for being Meiying's friend. They told Dre to not bother Meiying ever again and then leave, Meiying couldn't say anything but leave.

Those two plots are the most prominent to show which part of this movie has a racism plot. I know after all this movie used to educate people who watch it right? I just want to make all of you realize that this movie shows some racism to be learned the meaning inside it, not to be emulated.

My message to you guys, don't ever feel you are the most superior person at some point and then judging nor intimidating people that have different racial, cultures, language, custom, traditions etc. That's not good, always be humble to anyone ,to your family, friends, teacher/lecturers, boss, even strangers. Because people with humble hearts will get appreciated surrounding them. Always smile and helpful to people, you will reap what you sow for sure later, God's promised that.

Let us be the best version of ourselves so people do not get hurt by what we did/do. Don't be a judgemental person, be open minded and think from many different points of views before judging someone. Other moral values that I can get from this movie also is "Sometimes life will knock us down, but we can choose between giving up or getting back up." Those terms really represent Dre because he doesn't want to give up, he always tries to get back no matter how many times he gets beaten up.

Last but not least, my rating for this film is 9/10. I've watched this movie so many times since I was a kid until now sometimes and guess what?? Yes, I've never gotten tired of this movie. The plot, the casts, the setting all are just TOP for me. Since this movie is an action, drama, and family👪 movie, you can watch it with anybody without any exception😆.

That's all for today's upload from me guys, hope you enjoy this kind of topic yaaa. Leave me some of your thoughts too in the comments if you don't mind!!

Let's be more positive, ciao!✌
