"Inside the Interns: My Journey as an Intern Journalist at Harian Bhirawa"
April, 4th 2024
HI FOOTERS! back again with me Amanda here. Finally I'm in my 6th semester right now. Such an old semester isn"t it? lmao. I already feel like I'm old guys but actually I'm still 22 this year. Do you guys feel it too? like when you're feeling old and having so much burden and pressure all around you, especially your thoughts. That's what I feel right now but that's life and I'm here to write. It helps me to refresh my brain so much.
This semester I'm not doing any classes to be honest. Right after I finished my field study I was registering for an internship right away. I registered to 3 companies: JTV, Harian Disway, and Harian Bhirawa all 3 of them are online media companies. And I made it to Harian Bhirawa and I am still there till now. That's when all of my journey started.
My internship started from February 26th until June 14th, it's for about 4 months. Even though I don't do classes with the MBKM program all of the courses in this semester that I registered for will be converted with all of my activities in the company but it all under one condition, the students have to submit output of internship activities. For example reports, journals, articles, and several videos also. Doing the company task plus job desk and also the Uni submission is kinda tiring but still I need to do it for myself right. We don’t quit that easily as youngsters.
So, let me explain to you guys. At Harian bhirawa my job desk is basically as a journalist. Doing news coverage as a reporter, writer, editor for the videos that I will make are my main work. But because the company also has another problem which is lack of manpower in the content creators role, so we as interns need to help out the company. Me and my fellow intern friends and let me mention them here: Imelda, Luna, Tasya, Iqbal, Haidar, Bhima, and Yazid also do social media. Other than our role as journalists, we also make flyers or we usually call it a poster and news slide for the daily news content.
Personally I feel so happy that I am finally accepted to work there. Never really having the thought that I will pass the selection. Remembering I am not an active student never joining any of the uni organizations. Like just rely on my experiences as an amateur writer in this blog and several of my essay work for some english competition. And also my capability and excitement in English plus my TOEFL score. That’s all I got guys like never I imagined myself to be here right now. I mean there’s gotta be other active students there that have amazing skills and brilliant minds, that’s why I am really grateful for that. Just praying to God and letting him guide me to the right places. That’s just what I do.
As far as I am right now doing the internship. I’m feeling good about the company, all the people in it, the staff are so welcome to us. Always put a smile on us everytime we greet them. Learning many new things, like how to be a proper writer, how to be good with words, how to interview people, being brave to sound the truth, being an open minded person, not afraid with others thoughts about us, the importance of having a strong principle for ourselves too. I’m not just learning theoretically but also doing it right away in action. It’s really work for me as an introvert.
As I reflect on my half journey as an intern journalist at Harian Bhirawa, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude and accomplishment. It's been an exciting experience, from doinginto news coverage as a reporter to honing my skills as a writer and editor for videos. Despite the challenges of balancing company tasks, job responsibilities, and university submissions, I've come to appreciate the value of perseverance and dedication. It's true what they say about not quitting easily, especially as young individuals navigating the complexities of life and career aspirations.
Working alongside my fellow interns at Harian Bhirawa has been a rewarding collaboration. It’s been an honor for me to work together with you guys. Let’s continue to support and cheer each other till the very end of this internship journey. To assert that I never imagined myself in this position. Also as someone who wasn't really involved in university organizations, I relied on my passion for writing, my language skills, and a bit of luck to secure this opportunity. It's a reminder that sometimes, taking a leap of faith and trusting in your abilities can lead to unexpected and fulfilling paths.
This internship really pushed me out of my comfort zone as an introvert, teaching me to embrace challenges and grow from them. As I continue on this journey, I carry with me a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences, the people, and the lessons learned. Harian Bhirawa has been more than a workplace—it's been a place of growth, learning, and newfound confidence. And for that, I am truly thankful.
