Does Communication Science Major right for you? a Communication Student Thoughts

Do you need to be a naturally gifted public speaker before entering a communication science major?

Some of you guys must be triggered by the title above and some of you are not. I know the reason because you're naturally a great public speaker? Am I wrong?

This page is mainly meant for the ones who're not good nor great at it. Even more, we can say really suck at it yet you want to be something you're not at the moment. I felt that a lot. I am an introverted person, I am not good with words spokenly, I get that shy feeling, awkward, and afraid to start a conversation with people around moreover someone new (stranger).

People always say “aa youre communication student, must be professional at public speaking eh?” or “are you an extrovert?” The answer to all that was a BIG NO. I presume myself to take this major. The basic reason of all was only because I am interested in it. I despised math, science, art (drawing, sketching). I am not good at them at all but I felt social subjects hold something dearest to my heart. I love reading history books. I was so fascinated by Indonesia's war history. Once again I love social subjects NOT to socialize with people.

The thing that gets me motivated to take “Communication Science” is my own shortcomings. A tactless, rigid, barren person dared herself to go out of her comfort zone. She wants to change for the better. That was her reason. Nothing else. She felt it was her call, even though that was not what she truly is in the beginning.

As soon as she got in, carry on her classes semester by semester, day by day. She realized she wasn't the one who thought she lost. Almost every student in the class is not naturally a gifted public speaker. Several of them like graphic design, writings, drawing, and many more talents you can name in this world. They speak just the same as her, stilted face, act clumsy, weird pronunciation. That moment her insecurity goes away because she's here in the room with the same kind of people. None of them were really good or really bad. Just a bunch of ordinary students who want to LEARN. She will learn too, get used to it, and shape a new greater behavior.

Right after that she learned her lesson. Don't perceive yourself as a loser or incapable of something you haven't tried. Sometimes life is indeed uncomfortable not always like we have conceived but that doesn't mean it will always be bad for you. Some of that will shape you to the better man/woman who you are now and in the future. We have to embrace the pain and the discomfort so that you will acquire the best outcome.

To abbreviate, I am a communication science student who has zero abilities in the major. I took it anyway because I am interested and I have a strong will to change, that's what my power is.

Let me remind you that communication is not all about speaking. There's a lot of ways to communicate, through drawing, writing, songs. Verbal and nonverbal concepts are always there. You're not going to be a criminal if you are not good verbally. Everyone has their own gifts and strengths. Remember that!

These days I kinda got a glimpse of what I've been searching for, which is writing. I love English as my second tongue, on the other hand I adored my major so much. There's nothing wrong with combining it, right? Here we are now, you read my writings and I write this as a part of my way to keep getting better and progressing. Seems not that hard to write a little bit of essay like this but when you're not used to it. Believe me it is really a pain in the ass lmao. To be honest I am imposing myself to do this in order to make myself used to it too and securing my future.

Thank you so much for reading it, I hope it lands and read by the right person who really needs this.Don't quit on something easily, you need to fight for it. If you want something just say fuck it, I'm going to do it, try it, and take it. You got these footers!

Xoxo
